Octopus Energy founder Greg Jackson is to join a new board advising the local council on driving growth in Hammersmith and Fulham.

The inaugural meeting of the Upstream London Strategic Advisory Board meets today chaired by Sophie Devonshire, CEO of the Marketing Society.

The board brings together academia, business and local government to work on plans to deliver growth in a borough that is home to companies such as Autolus, L'Oréal and Novartis and a major campus for Imperial College.

It will meet quarterly to advise the Labour run council on “how to attract investment, incubate talent and ensure the growth this generates benefits of all residents of the borough.”

The board, convened by council leader Stephen Cowan is part of the second phase of Upstream London, an industrial strategy launched in 2017 with “the aim of transforming the Borough into an inclusive, global, economic hotspot.”

Other members of the board include John Anderson, the Chief Investment Officer at Imperial College, and Professor Maggie Dallman , Professor of Immunology.

Greg Jackson said: “I love living and bringing up my family in Hammersmith & Fulham where I'm proud to have built great businesses. As an early sherpa for the borough's industrial strategy, I’m delighted to be joining the board of Upstream London.

“This pioneering project showcases a borough that is serious about innovation, creativity and inclusive economic growth, and I look forward to playing my part in growing its footprint locally and nationally.”

Stephen Cowan said: “I’m really grateful to all the talented leaders from business, academia and local government that have agreed to serve on the Upstream London Strategic Advisory Board.

“It is another demonstration of the crucial role local authorities can play in leading economic growth and shared prosperity for residents through a culture of entrepreneurial municipal government.”
