The Oakland A’s have added another stop to their potential relocation tour. After a site visit in Las Vegas this week, a small group of A’s executives will visit Portland next month, according to reports.
Las Vegas and Portland are among the options on a short list of possible MLB expansion and relocation sites once listed by commissioner Rob Manfred. The Portland Diamond Project, a group in the area heading efforts to bring an MLB team to the city, confirmed to The Oregonian on Monday that it has been in talks with the A’s.
According to the report, A’s owner John Fisher, president Dave Kaval, executive vice president of baseball operations Billy Beane and executive Sandy Dean will make the fact-finding trip sometime in June.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred gave the A’s the go-ahead to explore possible relocation destinations earlier this month, three weeks after the A’s delivered to the city of Oakland a proposed $12 billion term sheet on the Howard Terminal plan.
