A preschool nursery has been given the lowest possible Ofsted rating after 'compromising children's health and wellbeing'.
Premier Nursery in Southport was given an 'inadequate' rating, with the report citing poor teaching quality and issues that 'may affect the safety and welfare of children'.

The report also says staff do not provide healthy food for children, which compromises their health.
Part of the report, from the inspection on March 29, reads: "Staff do not have a secure understanding of risks that may affect the safety and welfare of children.

"They fail to provide sufficient challenge for children and do not focus effectively on what children need to learn next.

"Staff do not consider the needs of younger children when providing learning experiences. For example, adult-led activities fail to stimulate children and do not encourage exploration.
"There is a detrimental impact on children's learning outcomes."
The nursery, on Sussex Road, is attended by around 40 pupils aged nought to five and has been established since 1996.

Prior to this inspection, it was rated 'good' by the education watchdog - following an inspection in December 2015.
Premier manager Len Mann said: "We are in the process of appealing against this rating.
"All matters raised in our inspection feedback have been addressed and we believe we are operating at a high standard."
