Nuno Espirito Santo reveals why Harry Winks has missed out on the Tottenham squad vs Arsenal

Nuno Espirito Santo has made three changes to his Tottenham team for Sunday's North London Derby clash against Arsenal.

Recalling Japhet Tanganga at right-back after his suspension for last week's defeat at home to Chelsea, Davinson Sanchez has also come back into the backline in place of summer signing Cristian Romero.

Fellow Argentina international Giovani Lo Celso has also made way following the return to fitness of Lucas Moura after the injury he sustained in Spurs' Europa Conference League clash away at Rennes.

Having plenty of options when it comes to his bench despite the continued absence of Steven Bergwijn and Ryan Sessegnon through injury, Harry Winks has missed out on the squad completely.

The academy graduate was also missing for Wednesday's Carabao Cup tie away at Wolves, a game in which many expected him to start.

Asked in his pre-match interview about the 25-year-old's absence once again, Espirito Santo stated that it's not possible to have everybody on the bench.

"Because we have to make decisions," explained the Portuguese. "Unfortunately it's not possible to have everybody."

On Lucas' return, he added: "It's good, it's good. He's an important player for us. He can give us different things."

A vital match for the Lilywhites as they look to return to winning ways after defeats against Crystal Palace and Chelsea, Espirito Santo was also quizzed on the importance of getting a positive result.

"It's always important how you do things," he said. "Mainly because we want to build, we want to keep on improving and creating an idea that can identify us as a team, so how we do it is important."

Spurs have struggled in the final third this season, with Harry Kane often cutting a frustrated figure in attack given the lack of chances created.

Espirito Santo has made it clear that the Spurs team have been putting in the work, however, as they look to rectify the problem.

"We work, try to build partnerships and expecting the players to improve and develop their natural talent," said the former Wolves boss.
