Nudism booms in lockdown as 'social isolation causes explosion in naked living'

Nudism has boomed during the pandemic as lockdown became frock-down for stay-at-home Brits.

Now naturist clubs are hoping to encourage more like-minded people to join them out in the open as restrictions are lifted.

Officials at British Naturism have reported a huge increase in applications over the past year.

Naturist clubs across Britain are advertising for new members to take advantage of the boom - they claim caused by people ditching their clothes at home during lockdown.

British Naturism claimed "social isolation has caused an explosion in naked living" and people have become used to less clothing and more relaxed outfits at home.

And now naturist clubs across the country have started try cash in on the trend - by advertising for new members.

The Pines Outdoor Club in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire is one looking for new nudists this week.

The aim of the club, which is soon to celebrate its 50th anniversary, is to ‘maintain an area where people who appreciate the benefits of social nakedness in the open air may do so in comfort and safety’.

A spokesman for The Pines Outdoor Club said: “The fresh buds that indicate spring is here are appearing throughout our eight acres of beautiful and peaceful grounds.

“The sunbathing lawns are manicured and ready with plenty of space to be socially distanced, For those who love being outdoors and are enjoying exploring the freedom, friendship, and acceptance that naturism offers,

perhaps for the first time, The Pines will be the place to be.”

A nudist club based in Loch Lomond in Scotland has seen a huge rise in membership requests.

The Scottish Outdoor Club says they have seen a growth in the number of people wanting to join since 2020.

A spokesman said: “We’ve seen a growth in inquiries to join us and there’s already been new people coming.

“They include a woman who was last a member 30 years ago. She’s now come back.

“I have no doubt it’s linked to coronavirus. People were spending a lot of time at home during lockdown.

‘’And I think a lot of them spent that time naked. It’s only natural that would be carried over.”

Speaking last year, Andrew Welch of British Naturism revealed business had been booming since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
