NT Police investigating after woman dies in buggy crash off cliff

NT Police are investigating after a buggy crashed off a steep cliff into a creek, killing a woman and putting a man in hospital.

It is believed the pair were travelling through heavy scrubland at about 11:00pm on Wednesday night when they crashed into the Daly River, about five kilometres north-west of the Daly River Community and 221 kilometres south-west of Darwin.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Ordelman said the 47-year-old woman was found dead at the scene.

A 53-year-old man was airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital by CareFlight, with suspected neck and spinal injuries.

Water Police helped with recovery efforts on Thursday morning.

The Major Crash Unit is continuing to investigate.

The death takes the road toll for 2018 to 19, compared to 11 at the same time last year.
