NSW Wedding Photographer Ordered To Pay $100k For Ghosting Couples Over & Over Again

A NSW wedding photographer has been ordered to pay $100,000 after repeatedly failing to provide couples with their photos and videos — and in at least one case, failing to turn up on the wedding day at all.

Emily Jayne Andres of Andres & Co was convicted by NSW Fair Trading of 15 breaches of Australian Consumer Law for accepting payment but not supplying goods or services.

Andres was hit with more than 68 complaints related to non-supply of work between March 2023 and February of this year, including one case where newlyweds forked out $5,000 for a wedding photo and video package only for Andres & Co to be a no-show on their big day.

It all culminated in the company being convicted today and slapped with a fine of $48,250 and an additional order to pay $51,760 to compensate the affected couples.

The case was brought forward by NSW Fair Trading Commissioner Natasha Mann after 15 couples raised the alarm to the agency about no-shows or poor quality services relating to their wedding days.

The packages ranged from edited and professionally processed photos to more extensive work like drone footage and videography. The most expensive package, purchased by 10 couples, promised minutes-long “cinematic highlights” and a “full-length documentary”.

All up, the 15 couples paid more than $59,000 to Andres & Co.

“There is only one opportunity to capture a wedding day, and this trader has robbed many couples of that moment,” Mann said in a statement.

“While no monetary penalty can change that, I am pleased to see the trader being held to account by the Court.”

It marks the latest development in a saga that kicked off in September 2024, when up to 50 brides came forward with claims Andres & Co had failed to deliver, only partially delivered, or poorly delivered services for their weddings.

Months later, Fair Trading officially issued a warning urging brides and grooms to not deal with Andres or Andres & Co.

Andres has 28 days to appeal Fair Trading’s decision.
