NSW South Coast Locals Rage After TikTok On ‘Worlds Most Beautiful Street’ Goes Viral

Locals of a picturesque NSW South Coast street are outraged with tourists flooding the space after it went viral on TikTok as “the most beautiful” in Australia.

About a month ago, David Battaglia (@davesyd_) lit up TravelTok with a stunning drive through of Gerrigong’s Tasman Drive, which sits right upon Werri Beach.

“Is this the MOST beautiful street in Australia? What do you think?” Battaglia wrote alongside the video, which has since been viewed more than 3.7 million times.

Is this the MOST beautiful street in Australia? 👀🌊 📍 Gerringong – just 2 hours from Sydney. We’re down here for work this week… but with views like this, it hardly feels like work. ➡️ Save this spot for your next road trip!” #roadtrip #nsw #kiama #australia

TikTokers went nuts for the video, which, yes, is a very lovely looking beach-front street in a very picturesque town.

“It’s Gerringong, isn’t it? I have been there and it is so so so beautiful!!!!!” one person wrote.

“I live by the beach, with a similar view in Spain. Most days, you forget or ignore. I try to be grateful, but as humans, we adapt even to our wildest dreams. Which is sad. I wish I appreciated more how blessed I am,” another penned.

“I’D DIE FOR THIS YOU KNOW,” wrote a third.

Many commenters also shared the envy of those who live on Tasman Drive. However, TikTok fame has turned Tasman Drive into an influencer hot spot, with locals (fairly) grumbling that the middle of their road is the new hot place to capture content from.

Taking to a Facebook Gerrigong Community Page, one resident shared a post on how it “feels pretty good not to be living on Tasman Drive” as it’s now copped an influx of visitors and influencers who are frothing that Aussie beachy IG moment.

The post was then flooded with other locals who had similar thoughts, with some even taking aim at the behaviour of tourists.

“All good until people are standing smack bang in the middle of the road, completely ignoring the traffic and the fact that cars are parked from top to bottom on both sides,” one person wrote in a lengthy comment.

“There’s a perfectly good hill right there, no reason everyone can’t use that for a photo instead of the road. It’s only October, and someone is going to get hit soon if this keeps up. Too many lives were lost in the water last year; no one wants to see another tragedy on land.”

Another person claimed they had to pick up “four dirty diapers (two on a bench) and three black bags of litter” since the street went viral.

“Have some respect or don’t come,” they wrote.

Another resident suggested to people who live on the street to “hose” visitors down.

“The people that live there should hose them! Put that on your TikTok! It’s so ridiculous! I’d hate to live on that street right now. Hopefully it ends soon for them!” the anonymous resident penned.

I’ve said this a-plenty of times working in the media space: do not underestimate the power of the internet.

Anything and everything WILL go viral. Including a street.
