Notts County romp to 4-0 victory over Eastleigh as they continue promotion charge

Notts County secured their fourth successive win in the National League as they romped to a 4-0 win over Eastleigh at Meadow Lane.

With several games off in the division due to the coronavirus outbreak, Neal Ardley's side produced a terrific display having taken the lead in the first half when Kyle Wootton headed in Kristian Dennis' inch-perfect cross.

Notts had to settle for a 1-0 lead at the break, but they came out firing after the interval and doubled their lead when Dennis nodded in a fine centre from Callum Roberts.

Ardley's side continued to threaten and they made it three when Mitch Rose latched onto a pass from Roberts before cutting a pass back to Wootton who smashed in a terrific first-time finish.

Eastleigh's challenged dissipated as a result and Roberts then scored his third goal of the week as he found the bottom corner with an excellent  strike from the edge of the box.

Robers was then denied by goalkeeper Max Stryjek as Notts hunted further goals while Enzio Boldewijn lashed over the bar from distance.

The only time the visitors threatened goalkeeper Joe McDonnell came when he kept out Michael Green's fierce drive at the near post.

The result meant Notts remained third in the table but are now just seven points behind leaders Barrow having played a game more.
