Nottinghamshire road closure for major change at busy road by Victoria Retail Park

A road closure will be in place for a number of days at a busy junction outside Victoria Retail Park, Netherfield,to make way for a box junction.

Nottinghamshire County Council will be closing the crossroad junction at Colwick Loop Road to turn it into a yellow box junction. The road closure begins on Tuesday, May 2, and will run from 8pm until 4am over the next four nights

It comes after issues have been ongoing for a number of years with motorists blocking both lanes into Victoria Retail Park as they attempt to go to and from Nottingham city.

Since 2020 there has been a campaign for changes at this junction and it has been described as a ‘big problem’ due to the backlog it can cause.

Conservative Mike Adams, county councillor for Carlton East, uploaded a video to Facebook in November 2020, saying the "backlog" traffic causes problems for motorists in Colwick, Netherfield, Burton Joyce and other parts of Gedling. He also stated the absence of a box junction creates safety issues - particularly for emergency services trying to get in and out of the area.

Works for the box junction were supposed to be in place between March 6 and March 10, but plans were pushed back due to poor weather conditions. Now, the plans will see the box junction complete by May 5.

A Highways Manager from Nottinghamshire County Council said: “The works are being undertaken to install a yellow box marking at a junction that regularly has problems with vehicles queueing across the arms. We anticipate that the markings will improve vehicle flow and reduce congestion. The works are taking place overnight to minimise disruption and the diversion route will be signed along the B686, Burton Road and Trent Valley Road.”
