Nottinghamshire glamping site could be turned into wedding venue

A Nottinghamshire glamping site hopes to host future weddings as it expands its facilities. Meadow View Glamping, which sits on the edge of Stapleford, has submitted planning permission to add a bar to previously approved plans to build a coffee shop, kitchen and store at the site.

The picturesque spot, which expands into the Erewash Valley, has been welcoming glampers since 2019 when it was opened by its former owners. Now the site, in Mill Farm Road, says it has received enquiries over weddings.

Ian Shakespeare, administration manager at Aston Properties (UK) Limited - the company which bought the site in late 2021 - said: "We've got planning permission for a coffee shop, a kitchen and a shop. But we're now putting a bar in there.

What three words would you use to describe Nottinghamshire? Let us know.

"So the site's got a full alcohol license. Our customers can look at having a coffee, a cake and an alcoholic drink.

"We've got potential weddings at enquiries level at the minute, that's where we are.

"We're looking at how we can take our situation, add things to the community. We've got loads of people asking us when the coffee shop will be opening - at the minute, the site is under construction."

The glamping site currently has six pods and one lodge. The site also has planning permission for two more lodges.

Aston Properties (UK) Limited bought the glamping site in September 2021. The company has since started implementing the planning permission the site had when it purchased it.

Mr Shakespeare added: "It had planning permission for a bed and breakfast, planning permission for a cafe and restaurant and shop."

The luxury camping site cost £250,000 to construct. The Smedley family, formerly in charge of Meadow View Glamping, unveiled the facility on April 17, 2019 and the site has since attracted visitors from across the country.

In late 2019, the site's former owners submitted plans to create a farm shop and a coffee shop. Speaking at the time, Victor Smedley said: "it's going to make better use of what we've got and something better for the area again.

"People seem to be coming to Stapleford more; it's more up-and-coming because they've got places to come - hotels and nice restaurants."

The plan to add a bar was received by Broxtowe Borough Council on June 2, and is currently pending consideration.
