Nottinghamshire coronavirus cases soar by 645 as more areas added to Tier 3

Nottingham and the wider county has recorded a total of 645 cases of coronavirus in the 24 hours to October 28.

This rise in cases comes as areas of Nottinghamshire move to Tier 3 restrictions from Friday.

The Government said a further 310 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday. This brings the UK total to 45,675.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 61,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

The Government said that, as of 9am on Wednesday, there had been a further 24,701 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 942,275.

In Nottingham there are now a total of 10,826 cases, an increase of 224 new cases.

Nottinghamshire recorded 421 new cases, bringing its total to 12,848.

Here is the breakdown for each borough and district:

Ashfield  - 1,873 (increase of 42)

Bassetlaw  -  1,650 (increase of 69)

Broxtowe  - 2,060 (increase of 64)

Gedling   - 2,111   (increase of 75)

Mansfield   - 1,388(increase of 52)

Newark and Sherwood   - 1,586 (increase of 50)

Nottingham 10,826 (increase of 224)

Rushcliffe   - 2,180 (increase of 69)

Newark and Sherwood District Council have confirmed they, alongside Nottingham city and other boroughs in Nottinghamshire, are expected to go into Tier 3 restrictions on Friday at 12.01am.

In a tweet, the council said: “In response to the increase in infection rates across Nottinghamshire and following a meeting with government this morning, Newark and Sherwood, along with the other Nottinghamshire districts and boroughs and Nottingham City, will move into Tier 3.

“This is expected to come into force in the early hours of Friday morning (00:01 Friday, October 30).

“Further details are expected to follow today including the financial support and what the new measures will mean for people who live and work in Newark and Sherwood.

“We appreciate the need for certainty for our residents and our business community, and as soon as we have more detail and clarity this will be communicated.”
