Nottingham's fountain and splash pools will remain closed this summer

Kids wanting a splashtastic time in the sun this summer will have to make do with a padding pool in the back garden.

There won't be scenes like those in the photo above this year at the fountain in the heart of Nottingham.

The water feature, in Old Market Square, was turned off soon after lockdown and has remained out of action since.

Splash pools at the Embankment and at Bulwell Bogs are also closed.

A Nottingham city council spokesman said: "They were closed down for safety reasons earlier this year as per the Covid restrictions. There are currently no plans to reopen any of them over the summer."

The beach in Old Market Square has also been axed this year. Instead there are a number of fair ground rides, a bar, and wooden tables and benches for picnics.

The council reopened the indoor pool at Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre on Monday for lane swimming, pool-based fitness classes and the restarting of swimming clubs.

Pools at Clifton and Southglade will reopen next Monday, August 10.

Swim Schools will restart at remaining Active Nottingham pools on Saturday, August 15, while lane swimming, pool-based fitness classes and swimming clubs will follow from Monday, August 17.
