Nottingham Pride 2020 is cancelled but organisers still working to mark the day

Organisers have pulled the plug on this summer's planned Notts Pride street party and parade but are still looking for ways to mark the day.

Due to take place on July 25 an announcement released on the event's official Facebook page said its cancellation would not come as a surprise to many.

It urged disappointed festival-goers to look forward to next year when hopefully mass gathering will once again be safe and dancing and singing in the street can recommence.

An update on a revised date or online content will be revealed in the first week of June.

Rain didn't dampen the fun as thousands paraded through Nottingham city centre in a show of solidarity to celebrate

Pride last year.

People carrying LGBTQ+ flags snaked from Lister Gate up to Hockley where the parade culminated at the 'rainbow road' in Broad Street.

Entertainment ran throughout the day with the city centre been decorated with more than 100 rainbow flags.

People who gathered at the event stressed its importance in championing diversity.

Notts Pride statement in full

It will come as no surprise that Notts Pride will not be taking place on July 25. Marking the day is till important to everyone. Ideas are being explored about how this could happen, including dates later on in the year and online content.

This will become clearer in the first week on June, when further updates will be published.

Much gratitude to all the individuals and organisations with whom Notts Pride works, for their continued support and wisdom.

Crucially, as distant as it may seem, all of us must shift our gaze to Saturday, July 31. No one can offer guarantees of anything as the pandemic continues, but hope permits us to imagine the scene: the marching, the singing, the dancing and the celebrating of the simple, yet overwhelming joy of being together. Stay safe.
