Nottingham pays tribute to June Brown - EastEnders' Dot Cotton

Nottingham has paid tribute to EastEnders star June Brown after her death aged 95. The actress, who played Dot Cotton in the BBC soap for more than 30 years, died at her home in Surrey on Sunday evening (April 3) with her family by her side.

Reacting to her death, Nottinghamshire Live readers described Brown as a 'lovely lady' and a 'great actress'. Donna Young commented on Facebook: "OMG didn't even know she was that age. One of the good ones. RIP Lovely Lady."

Also expressing their condolences was Sharon Bartram, who said: "Rest in peace dot, a great lady, a great loss." Sam Cholerton added that she was a "great actress".

Melissa Whitrod commented: "R.I.P such a beautiful lady and actress sending thoughts and love to the family." Louise Barlow added: "Omg rest in peace dot you have been an absolute legend. Thank you."

An EastEnders spokeswoman said: “There are not enough words to describe how much June was loved and adored by everyone at EastEnders, her loving warmth, wit and great humour will never be forgotten.

“June created one of the most iconic characters in Dot Cotton, not just in soap but in British television, and having appeared in 2,884 episodes, June’s remarkable performances created some of EastEnders’ finest moments. We send all our love and deepest sympathies to June’s family and friends.

"A very bright light has gone out at EastEnders today but we shall all be raising a sweet sherry in June’s memory. Rest in peace, our dearest June. You will never be forgotten.”
