Nottingham Girls' Academy confirms Covid-19 case among year 11 bubble

A secondary school in Beechdale has asked some students to self-isolate after confirming cases of Covid-19 within the school.

A letter posted to the Nottingham Girls' Academy website from principal, David Tungate, said Public Health England (PHE) had informed the school of a case within the Year 11 bubble.

The letter, dated October 8, read: "In line with the latest government and Public Health England advice, the affected people (the person themselves and anyone classed as a close contact), identified through our contact tracing process, are now self-isolating as a precautionary measure.

"We have identified students using seating plans. Anyone who was sat in close proximity of the person who has tested positive, in the classes they were in 48hrs prior to symptoms developing, has been asked to self-isolate.

"I know this may cause some concerns about the health and safety of your child but I want to reassure you that, as an Academy, we take the health, safety and wellbeing of all of our pupils, staff and the wider school community extremely seriously and are working in partnership with the local public health authority to ensure the appropriate steps are taken."

The school remains open for other pupils and staff to continue to attend.

The news comes after a letter was also published to the Academy's website on October 4, where it also confirmed a case of Covid-19 although it did not specify a bubble.

There has now been nearly 60 schools across Nottinghamshire affected by coronavirus since the start of September.

More restrictions are set to be announced by Government today that are likely to affect the city and possibly parts of the county.
