Nottingham Forest transfers: Big three could pave way for key signing in January

Nottingham Forest will ‘splash out’ in January, after owner Evangelos Marinakis gave the ‘green light’ for Sabri Lamouchi to bolster his squad to help their promotion bid, according to reports.

The Reds are prepared to free up space in their wage bill by allowing Michael Helefe, Claudio Yacob and Zach Clough to leave the club, according to the Mirror, with none of the trio featuring for Lamouchi this season.

Forest only have two senior strikers in their ranks, with Rafa Mir, yet to get off the mark providing the back-up to leading scorer Lewis Grabban, and the club are keen to strengthen their attacking options in a bid to secure promotion to the Premier League.

‘The City Ground outfit have now decided they want more firepower upfront,” the report said.

“Forest’s Greek owner Evangelos Marinakis has given the green light to invest in a new striker or other attacking talent when the transfer window opens.

“But to free up resources, Forest are willing to offload some fringe players including Zach Clough and Claudio Yacob.”

Hefele hasn’t played since the New Year’s Day win over Leeds after picking up an Achilles problem, while Yacob featured in the latter stages of last season under Martin O’Neill - Clough’s previous outing was at Hull in an FA Cup defeat in January 2018.

Lamouchi’s Reds have already been linked with a move for Newcastle’s £15m-rated striker Dwight Gayle, and Young Boys’ former PSG and French international Guillaume Hoarau.
