Nottingham Forest transfer boost as rivals ‘switched attention' to Chelsea alternative

Nottingham Forest could have been given a boost in their hopes of signing Morgan Gibbs-White this summer as rivals Crystal Palace have reportedly ‘switched’ their attention to an alternative target.

Gibbs-White has key transfer target for Steve Cooper all summer as he looks to prepare his squad for the Premier League season which kicks off in just five days time. Forest have added 12 new players to their squad ahead of the season opener against Newcastle United with Orel Mangala being the latest to arrive at the City Ground.

Gibbs-White spent last season on loan in the Championship with Sheffield United, where he scored 12 times in the league. He was also on the scoresheet in the second leg of the play-off semi-final between Forest and the Blades, with the Reds coming out victorious in a penalty shootout to book their place at Wembley.

Forest are not alone in their interest in the player though with Everton, Crystal Palace and Southampton all linked with the versatile forward this summer. Everton are said to have seen a bid rejected by Wolves, who are keen to keep hold of the player.

Should they decide to cash in this summer it is said that the Midlands club would be looking for a fee of around £30 million. He has two years left on his deal, but has not put pen to paper on fresh terms reportedly offered to him by the club.

Forest have also now been given another boost with Palace said to be turning their attention to a move for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The Sun report that the Eagles are eyeing a move for the England international after growing ‘impatient’ over the Gibbs-White saga.

The report adds that an injury to Wolves striker Raul Jimenez means that Gibbs-White is seen as an even more important asset to the squad. Clubs including Palace and Forest are said to be growing ‘frustrated’.

Loftus-Cheek spent time on loan at Selhurst Park in 2017/2018 and is said to be priced at a fee of around £20 million.
