Nottingham Forest theory emerged before surprise Olympiacos defeat

Here are the Nottingham Forest headlines from NottinghamshireLive for Sunday, December 10.

Forest lose to Olympiacos

Nottingham Forest were beaten 1-0 by fellow Evangelos Marinakis-owned side Olympiacos in their penultimate friendly of the winter break

The visitors saw plenty of the ball in the opening half hour, and they had a couple of good chances to take the lead, too.

Willy Boly had to make a last-ditch tackle to thwart Pep Biel early on, but Ryan Yates spurned a good opportunity to bag the opener soon after, firing narrowly over from the edge of the area after Morgan Gibbs-White had pulled the ball back.

Cooper delivers verdict

Head coach Steve Cooper was left with mixed feelings after Nottingham Forest lost 1-0 to Olympiacos in their penultimate friendly of the winter break.

The Reds rounded off their week-long training camp in Greece with a meeting with their fellow Evangelos Marinakis-owned side at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium. The visitors saw plenty of the ball without creating too many opportunities in a first half which was played at a tepid pace.

They improved after the break, but were already behind to a header from former Forest man Pajtim Kasami. And although Serge Aurier, Brennan Johnson and Morgan Gibbs-White had chances, an equaliser wouldn’t come.

Transfer theory discussed

Nottingham Forest supporters are split over the latest transfer rumour linking them with Union Berlin's Sheraldo Becker.

A former teammate of Reds summer signing Taiwo Awoniyi, Becker, 27, has effectively replaced the Nigeria international up front for the Bundesliga side after being moved from the right wing into a more central role. Eight goals have followed across all competitions for the side who remain in contention to qualify for European competition once again, even without Awoniyi.

Some Reds supporters a suggesting that the presence of their top goalscorer should play a part in convincing Becker to choose Forest. Here is a selection of the social media reaction to these latest transfer rumours.

'Open race' for January transfer

Nottingham Forest have reportedly "enquired" about the availability of Union Berlin winger Sheraldo Becker and "want" to sign the player during the January transfer window.

Becker, 27, has enjoyed a strong start to the season for the German side, scoring eight goals and assisting a further five for teammates across all competitions. The Suriname international has been moved to a more central role in the attack since the Reds signed Taiwo Awoniyi from the capital club during the summer.

While playing together over the previous two seasons, the pair combined to assist six goals for each other. Since arriving for what was at the time a club-record fee at the start of the summer, Awoniyi has scored three goals and is Forest's top scorer so far this season despite starting less than half of the club's Premier League matches.
