Nottingham Forest setback explained as key transfer clause emerges

Hello, Reds fans! Here are your Forest headlines after last night's 1-1 draw against Valencia at Meadow Lane.

Forest ace suffers 'minor' setback

Midfielder Ryan Yates has suffered a minor injury setback ahead of the start of Nottingham Forest’s season. The 24-year-old had made his comeback from a knee problem on Tuesday night, playing the first 45 minutes of the 2-2 draw against Notts County. But he was not included in the squad for the Reds’ final friendly of the summer, against Valencia.

Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was also absent as Forest drew 1-1 with the Spanish side at Notts County’s Meadow Lane ground. Boss Steve Cooper says the summer signing is expected to join in training ahead of next weekend’s season opener at Newcastle United. But the Welshman added Yates faces a couple of weeks on the sidelines.

Johnson scores, Lingard impresses on debut

Nottingham Forest rounded off pre-season with a 1-1 draw against Valencia, thanks to Brennan Johnson’s equaliser.

The Reds had the better of the first half and created some good chances, with Jesse Lingard central to much of their positive play. The summer signing tried his luck on a few occasions early on, dragging a couple of efforts wide and seeing another deflected behind.

It was Sam Surridge who came closest to opening the scoring, however. The striker hit the far post with a header from Brennan Johnson’s cross after the Wales international had beaten goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili to a long ball.

Transfer clause revealed

Nottingham Forest have reportedly agreed to a sell-on clause as part of the transfer of Orel Mangala.

Forest are close to announcing the arrival of the 24-year-old midfielder from Bundesliga side Stuttgart. He will become the Reds' 12th signing of the summer and the second player to come from the German top flight after Moussa Niakhate joined from Mainz last month.

According to German outlet Kicker, there is a 14 per cent sell-on clause in the deal negotiated between Stuttgart and Forest. It is usually the case that the sell-on clause only applies to profits made on a transfer, but that has not been made clear in this instance.

Double transfer bid ‘rejected’

Nottingham Forest have reportedly seen a double bid for Real Betis stars William Carvalho and Alex Moreno ‘rejected outright’ by the Spanish club.

The Reds are looking to add further to their squad over the next few weeks, despite Steve Cooper being one of the busiest head coaches in the transfer market so far this summer. Forest have officially completed the signings of 11 new players ahead of the new Premier League season.

Two players to be linked with a move to the City Ground are Real Betis full-back Alex Moreno and midfielder William Carvalho. Reports earlier this week said that the Reds failed with a bid for Moreno earlier this summer, with Betis reported to be holding out for a fee of around €20 million.
