Nottingham Forest set to learn if they have earned silverware

Nottingham Forest’s Under-23s could be declared league champions on Thursday with youth football campaigns set to be resolved.

All professional youth leagues were suspended in March amid the coronavirus pandemic with a decision taken for the remaining fixtures to be cancelled completely.

The Premier League meet for their AGM on Thursday, and, according to youth football experts Youthhawk, it is expected they will declare that all academy leagues will be finalised on points per game.

If that decision is taken, the Reds’ youngsters will be declared Professional Development League Northern champions.

Chris Cohen’s side were six points clear at the top of the table when the season was brought to a premature end, and organising the division by points per game has no impact on their standing.

Gary Brazil, Forest’s academy manager, said ahead of the news: “It's a further indication of the hard work and commitment of all staff and players in the Professional Development Phase. Looking forward to a new season and new challenges ahead.”

Forest’s Under-23s won 14 of the 21 fixtures they did play, losing just twice. They also bagged 53 goals, 12 more than any other side in the division.
