Nottingham Forest set for double boost as highly-rated Barcelona youngster close to deal

Nottingham Forest are closing in on the signing of Barcelona midfielder Marcus McGuane.

The former Arsenal youngster is understood to be set to make the switch to the City Ground once the relevant paperwork is completed, and will join the Reds’ Under-23s team.

McGuane came up through the ranks at the Gunners, before moving to Spain in 2018 and linking up with Barca’s B side.

He has spent the first half of this season on loan at Dutch side Telstar, but is said to have returned to England this month for talks with a number of clubs - with the 20-year-old opting for Forest.

And it is likely to be a double boost for Chris Cohen’s youngsters, as Swedish striker Julian Larsson is expected to join from AIK, amid suggestions he will pen a three-year contract.

The 18-year-old has been capped by his country at Under-17 and Under-19 level, as well as being around AIK’s senior side, and was rated as one of the Swedish club’s brightest talents.

Both players will be part of the Reds Under-23s squad initially, rather than Sabri Lamouchi’s first-team set-up.

But the pair are highly regarded and seen as ones for the future on the banks of the Trent.
