Nottingham Forest 'scrap' Chelsea transfer plans ahead of January window

Nottingham Forest have reportedly 'scrapped' their plans to sign Chelsea centre-forward Armando Broja after the player suffered a serious knee injury during a mid-season friendly against Aston Villa earlier this month.

Forest were understood to be considering a move for Broja, 21, during the summer transfer window on the back of a successful loan spell with Southampton last season. Several other Premier League clubs, including Everton and West Ham United, were also credited with an interest, but the player ended up staying at Chelsea and signing a new six-year contract the day after transfer deadline day.

The Albania international made 18 appearances and scored his first goal for the club against Wolverhampton Wanderers back in October before top-flight football paused for the World Cup. Broja is now expected to miss the remainder of the season, though, after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament in one of his knees during a friendly match in Abu Dhabi against Villa.

The Telegraph have now revealed that the Reds had 'plans to sign' the player on loan during January, which have now been 'scrapped' because of this injury. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is quoted in the same publication as saying that the club "will try to get at least an additional two players" during the January transfer window, with 'attacking players' as well as a central defender claimed to be 'priorities' by the newspaper.

Attacking midfielder Gustavo Scarpa is already set to join the club on New Year's Day on a free transfer from Brazilian champions Palmeiras. With that move in the works well in advance of its announcement, it appears the Brazil international's arrival would be in addition to at least another two players.
