Nottingham Forest's brilliant message after heartbreaking World Cup reveal

Nottingham Forest have publically shown Neco Williams their support on social media just a day after the player's grandfather died.

The 21-year-old dedicated Wales' 1-1 draw against the United States of America in their first World Cup game since 1958 to his late granddad. Williams started the match at left wing-back and was replaced by Reds teammate Brennan Johnson minutes before Gareth Bale's late equaliser for Rob Page's side.

After the match on social media, Williams revealed how his mother had informed him about the death in the family in advance of the match. The player also shared a photograph of him and his grandparent on Instagram.

"Yesterday was the toughest news I’ve ever had to face and that was listening to my mum tell me my grandad passed away last night," Williams shared across his social media platforms. Forest have now made public their support for the player.

"You showed incredible strength and bravery," a message addressed to Williams begins. "Keep making your grandad proud. We are all behind you."

Wales play their second group game against Iran on Friday at 10am (GMT) before facing England a week today, next Tuesday at 7pm. Should they advance as one of the top two sides in Group B, they would be back in action later that week on Friday or Sunday in the round of 16.
