Nottingham Forest release shirt numbers - and they could spell end of the road for some

Out-of-favour trio Zach Clough, Michael Hefele and Gaetan Bong have been left out of the list of Nottingham Forest players handed squad numbers for the new season.

But youngsters Jake Taylor, George Shelvey and Jordan Gabriel have all been included, with head coach Sabri Lamouchi having not been afraid to put his faith in youth since he took charge.

Neither Clough or Hefele have featured for the Reds under Lamouchi - and the former has recently been linked with a move to Greece.

Bong was signed in January from Brighton & Hove Albion, penning a deal until the summer of 2022.

His sole appearance last term came in a miserable 1-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic at the City Ground in February, when he was substituted before the hour mark after a forgettable debut.

Bong wore number six when he arrived, Hefele had number 44 last season and Clough, 39. But all three could end up moving on before the transfer window closes, if moves can be found.

Elsewhere, Jack Colback has taken the number eight shirt vacated by Ben Watson, while fellow new signings Fouad Bachirou, Luke Freeman, Miguel Angel Guerrero, Tyler Blackett and Lyle Taylor have taken numbers 14, 15, 19, 24 and 33 respectively.

Full-back Yuri Ribeiro has gone from wearing number two to number five, Sammy Ameobi has swapped 19 for 11 - which was previously worn by Matty Cash, before his departure to Aston Villa - and Alex Mighten is now number 17 rather than 48.

First-choice stopper Brice Samba will continue to wear number 30, while Forest are expected to add further additions to the six already recruited - including PSG teenager Loic Mbe Soh.
