Nottingham Forest 'reach agreement' for Barcelona midfielder - but move could still be scuppered

Nottingham Forest have reportedly “reached an agreement” with Barcelona for midfielder Marcus McGuane - but it is said a move could yet be scuppered.

The former Arsenal youngster is currently on loan at Dutch side Telstar, and it is claimed they want a “decent fee” from the Reds, if they are looking to secure his services.

McGuane, who was born in Greenwich and came up through the Gunners’ ranks before moving to Spain in 2018, is said to have returned to his homeland this month for talks with a number of English sides.

According to Dutch newspaper Ijmuider Courant, he opted for Forest and negotiations with Barcelona have subsequently been underway.

“FC Barcelona and Nottingham Forest have already reached an agreement on the transfer of the English midfielder,” the report states.

“Telstar, however, has signed a lease agreement with Barcelona which states that McGuane will play football in Velsen-Zuid until the end of the season.

“Nottingham must therefore buy off the lease.

“According to Telstar trainer Andries Jonker, this compensation is currently being negotiated. ‘We don’t want to be the only club in the world that lets players walk out the door for free,’ said Jonker.”

Jonker, apparently, has not ruled out McGuane reporting back to Telstar.
