Nottingham Forest provide 'optimistic' update on City Ground redevelopment plans

Nottingham Forest say they are “optimistic” of seeing their application to redevelop the City Ground approved this year.

The club provided an update on plans to transform their stadium in their latest set of accounts, which were released today.

And the Reds say they have already spent more than £2m directly related to the redevelopment plan.

Forest first announced their intention to transform their home into a world-class venue in a multi-million pound project in 2019.

Work had been due to get underway last summer, starting with knocking down and rebuilding the Peter Taylor Stand, but that was put on hold - with “delays in the planning process” cited.

Could Nottingham Forest line up with a midfield of Garner, Krovinovic and Johnson next season?

The club said in January they were “finalising the last few outstanding documents for the planning submission”.

And a report in their accounts for 2019/20 says: “The club is committed to improving the fan experience at the City Ground.

“As part of this plan, investment has continued into the planning of a new Peter Taylor Stand which would see capacity of the venue increase to 35,000.

“Many specialist agencies have been engaged to assist the club in the delivery of this project including architects, construction firms, engineering groups, traffic consultants and environmental experts.

“As at the end of the financial year, the club has incurred more than £2m in costs directly related to the stadium redevelopment plan.

“Redeveloping a stadium in an established residential area has added complexity, but the club is optimistic that the application will be successful during the 2021 calendar year.”

Back in January, the club said: “After more positive dialogue the club and its appointed consultants are finalising the last few outstanding documents for the planning submission.

“Most of this relates to further transportation data that is required (and the impact of covid).

“We are hopeful it will be completed over the next few weeks and the application submitted in the first quarter of 2021.”

In 2019, Forest set out their plans to give their home a significant face-lift, with increasing the capacity of the Peter Taylor Stand a central feature.

Work was delayed last summer as planning approval had not been granted, and it is understood there were planning issues with the proposed residential development next to the stadium.

However, it is understood the club believe positive strides have been made.
