Nottingham Forest 'make approach' for Premier League attacker

Nottingham Forest are said to have approached Watford over signing attacking midfielder Philip Zinckernagel on loan.

The Reds got their pre-season up and running at the weekend when a mix of first-team and youth players featured against Alfreton Town.

But they are yet to make their first signing of the summer, ahead of what boss Chris Hughton hopes will be a promotion push.

To challenge for a top-six spot, reinforcements are needed - particularly when it comes to solving Forest’s goalscoring woes of last term.

And the Watford Observer report talks are ongoing between the Reds and the Hornets over a possible move for Zinckernagel.

It is said the Premier League side are not averse to allowing the 26-year-old to make the switch to the City Ground on a temporary basis.

However, they are “waiting to see what options they have at their disposal” before a final decision is made.

Zinckernagel helped Watford secure promotion back to the top-flight last term, scoring one goal and weighing in with five assists in 20 Championship appearances.

He only arrived at Vicarage Road in the January transfer window, on a free transfer from Bodo Glimt, joining on a five-and-a-half-year deal.

The Dane had bagged 19 goals in 28 outings during a title-winning season for the Norwegian top-flight club.

Hughton’s side were among the division’s lowest scorers in 2020/21 and adding to his attacking options is a priority before the window closes.
