Nottingham Forest find transfer silver lining despite 'depressing' Fulham defeat

If Nottingham Forest can take any positives from Saturday's disappointing defeat to Fulham it's that they have signed two "class" players in Jonjo Shelvey and Felipe.

Goals from wingers Willian and Manor Solomon handed the hosts all three points as the Reds failed to create any clear cut chances. To make matters worse for Forest, Scott McKenna and Willy Boly were forced off due to injury early in the match.

Felipe was sent on for his debut alongside Joe Worrall and made an impression in the centre of defence. Shelvey came on in the second half to replace Orel Mangala to show what he can bring to Steve Cooper's midfield.

Supporters were impressed by both players, who joined the club just before the January transfer window closed. Here is what some Forest fans had to say on Twitter after the game:

Chris Kearney: On another day we coulda stole a point in that 2nd half but on the 1st half performance didn’t deserve much. A bit of a theme away from home that. Positives 2nd half though. If we can keep Shelvey fit for the rest of the season he’ll help a lot. Felipe a very solid debut.

Will Thorpe: Take the positives as Cooper always says to, Shelvey & Felipe look good signings, improved when we took Wood off! Fulham are a decent team!

Patrick Atkinson: Loads of positives there, shoulda took something from the game. New signings looked class #nffc

Paul Severn: A disappointing day with teams around us picking up points. Not easy losing CBs in early stages. Perhaps we need to believe in ourselves a little more away. Shelvey might bring more authority to our play in midfield. Still in a reasonable position to win the games needed.

Hannah: The injuries are really depressing because this team when all fit wouldn't be anywhere near relegation. If MGW gets crocked we've had it. #nffc

Phil Clarke: Disappointing day but let’s keep some perspective. We’d have been thrilled with 11 points from these last 6 games, and to be in this position after 22 games. Got away with one last week as well, not as lucky today. No big deal, onwards #nffc

Matt Shepardson: Have we been relegated today or something? Cheer up! #nffc

Chris W: Think we might have nicked a point if Sam had come on instead of Dennis… I don’t like to criticise our own players but his decision making, finishing and defensive effort are all poor for 2nd goal. Lamely tries to nick it just run with him!

Scott: So many negative people on here. What did they expect? Us to go the rest of the season unbeaten? Fulham are flying. They’re not pushing for Europe for nothing. Some saying we’re back in a relegation scrap - we’re still 6 points outside as we were at lunch time #nffc

Fred: Shelvey was good. MGW very poor. Felipe solid. Worrall weak link again (obviously). Everyone else was awful.
