Nottingham Forest fans 'gutted' after transfer fears are realised

Nottingham Forest fans have been reacting to the news that Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder plans to recall Djed Spence from his loan spell at the City Ground.

Wilder confirmed that he will have to recall most of his players currently out on loan after a Covid-19 outbreak ripped through his squad.

Boro are set to travel to Bramall Lane on New Year's Day to face Sheffield United after the EFL apparently insisted that they must fulfil the fixture.

Wilder said in his pre-match press-conference: "I'll be making a call to Steve Cooper to see if we can have Djed Spence back to sit on the bench."

The Forest faithful took to social media to have their say on the latest developments.

"It will be interesting to see if they keep hold of him or send him back once the virus has gone from the team, I'm thinking not but hopefully..." one Reds supporter said on Twitter.

Another added: "Spence is too good to go sit on a bench at Boro."

Here is some more reaction...

Jayke: "Awful news for any Forest fan. Sad to see him go. Hopefully get him back soon."

Max: "On the bench??"

William Eaton: "I do wonder however, could maybe mean they send him back at end of January if possible??"

Alan: "Please return!"

Tom: "Been my favourite player since we were allowed back in and easily my favourite loan player. You could just tell he loved it with us. Miss you already."

Jonathan Eve: "So that's that then. Djed Spence back to Boro. Thank you for your service, it's been an absolute joy to watch you play and you’ve helped transform this team. Hope to see you back in the Garibaldi Red again. Literally the worst news to finish the year with."

Gary Marriott: "Come on Forest put a bid in, he’ll only be warming the bench. Lads become a legend for us in his time here."

Harry: "Djed Spence has been the best loan player I’ve seen at Forest, made a real impact in the team, honestly hope that this isn’t the end, been a joy to watch this season, genuinely gutted."

David Nicholson: "Will be genuinely gutted to see Djed Spence leave the City Ground. Been magnificent all season and I can’t see how he can be replaced this window."

Callum Castel-Nuovo: "One of the most refreshing players I’ve ever seen at the City Ground. Will be a major miss if he returns to Middlesbrough - Forest need to do all they can to try and sign him on a permanent basis. Can’t think of one Forest fan that has a negative word to say about Djed Spence."

Natasha: "Don't go Djed."

Mister Grimsdale: "Well I would like to thank Spence for coming to Forest and being absolutely fantastic. Whatever happens our club owes you a debt of gratitude for your brilliant exciting performances. You have probably increased your profile 10 fold and its deserved. All our fans wont forget."

Talk Forest: "Thanks for everything Spence you’ve been a revelation, hopefully we go all guns blazing to bring you back."
