It hasn’t taken Nottingham Forest supporters long to start poking fun at Derby County’s new manager, giving new head coach Philip Cocu a nickname.
The Rams wasted no time in appointing a replacement for Frank Lampard, who finally rubber-stamped his return to Chelsea on Thursday, after penning a three-year deal at Stamford Bridge to end weeks of speculation.
Ex-Barcelona midfielder and PSV boss Cocu is the man charged with bringing a halt to the Rams’ long wait for Premier League football, penning a four-year deal at Pride Park Stadium having flown out to join his new team on their pre-season trip to Florida.
Dutchman Cocu has been likened by Forest (and Leeds) supporters to Coco the Clown, the famous clown from the 20th century, though it remains to be seen if he and Derby end up having the last laugh come early May.
Cocu will be joined at Pride Park by Chris van der Weerden and Twan Scheepers – with the latter’s surname not escaping the notice of those humorous Reds..
