Nottingham Forest ‘epic’ transfer window defended as over 40 deals complete

Nottingham Forest fans have reacted to the club’s ‘epic’ summer transfer window as the summer activity was completed last night.

When the transfer window shut at 11pm, Steve Cooper had been successful in bringing a total of 21 new players to the club. The latest additions being the deadline day captures of Willy Boly, Josh Bowler and Loic Bade, although Bowler has joined Olympiacos on loan for the season after signing permanently from Championship side Blackpool.

Other significant additions to the squad include the signing of free agent Jesse Lingard and the transfer of long-term target Morgan Gibbs-White from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Forest were hoping to also sign Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi, only for the deal to fall through late last night as the deadline approached. But it wasn’t just incomings where Forest were busy.

A number of players also left the club in the summer window, including loanees returning to their parent clubs. James Garner, who returned to Manchester United, completed a deadline day move to Everton, while Djed Spence joined Tottenham Hotspur during the summer.

Players such as Joe Lolley, Brice Samba and Lewis Grabban left the club as part of the overhaul. There has also been a number of players going out on loan, including Alex Mighten, Ethan Horvath and Jonathan Panzo.

Following the end of the transfer window and all the movement in and out of the City Ground that has come with it. Forest fans took to social media to give their thoughts and defend the strategy from criticism, here’s what just some had to say.

Gibbo : Glad the window is shut now, so Cooper knows what he's playing with. A very good & much needed window. 21 players in and 26 out (not counting ones we've loaned back out) #nffc

Greg Oram : t’s been an epic transfer window. One like no other in the history of #nffc that has seen a complete turnover & upgrade in every position. It’s been exhausting & I’m actually glad it’s closed finally. Now we can focus solely on the games & getting the points needed to survive!

Mark Scothern : Yes, it's a lot of transfers at #NFFC but it doesn't take much reading to understand it's 22 OUT, and 21 IN so still a modest squad size. Getting tired of hearing the comparison to Fulham now; yes it's a risk but it had to be done to have any chance.

Rob : #NFFC have had to sign so many because the recruitment in previous seasons has been so poor. Huge churn in players and managers mean we haven't built a settled squad over a number of years which may have been ready to step up when we got promoted.

Phil Viles : Well that was a lot of fun, sometimes intriguing, sometimes just plain daft. Jizz Hornkamp anybody?

Can we concentrate on these players actually playing some football now though please? Huge game on Saturday! #NFFC #DeadlineDay

Tom Head : Transfer window has closed at the right time. In some ways, it always felt like our season would only properly start in September: Four of the five teams we’ve played are likely to be Top 8

Squad is complete, and we have a run of evenly-matched games coming up. Onwards… #nffc

Nick Guise : Most signings in a single window in history, you'll never sing that

Jeff : Quality window lets enjoy it now. I hope fans join me in giving this squad time to gel and just stay off players backs for a few months. Let’s trust cooper to find his best 11 and make it work. It’s counter productive to stick the knife in over every mistake. #nffc
