Joe Worrall looks set to be sidelined until after the international break after the Nottingham Forest defender suffered a cracked rib.
Reds boss Chris Hughton confirmed the centre-back sustained the injury in the defeat to Luton Town and remarkably went on to play the whole 90 minutes at Watford just days later.
Worrall, who missed the 1-1 draw at home to Reading, had not complained of being in any pain, but was sent for a scan which revealed the full extent of the injury.
He will now be out of action for the next two weeks at least, although Scott McKenna is now available again and produced a fine performance against the Royals.
Another injury blow
Nottingham Forest winger Joe Lolley says he hopes his injury is “not too bad” after he was forced off in the 1-1 draw with Reading.
The 28-year-old pulled up with what appeared to be a hamstring injury during the first half of the match at the City Ground, in another blow for the Reds.
Lolley was making his 30th appearance of the season in the Garibaldi, being brought into the starting XI as one of four changes made by boss Chris Hughton.
But just past the half hour mark, he pulled up as he made a run down the centre of the pitch and looked to clutch his hamstring.
Manager's verdict
Chris Hughton was happy with a point as Nottingham Forest were held to a 1-1 draw at home by promotion-chasing Reading.
The visitors had hit the post in the first half through Lucas Joao but the Reds took the lead after the break when Tom Holmes lashed into his own net.
But that sparked a fierce response from the Royals, who again hit the woodwork through Andy Yiadom after George Puscas had smashed over the bar.
Forest had held firm but their resistance was finally broken when Joao picked out substitute Yakou Meite, who fired beyond Brice Samba nine minutes from time.

The Royals finally made a breakthrough in the final minutes, however, as Yakou Meite levelled to leave the spoils shared.
