Nottingham Forest complete transfer following deadline day arrivals

Goalkeeper Jordan Smith has completed a move from Nottingham Forest to Huddersfield Town.

The Nigel Doughty Academy graduate has put pen to paper on a loan deal with the Terriers for the second half of the season. With Smith's contract due to expire in the summer, it could pave the way to the end of his two-decade stint at the City Ground.

The 28-year-old’s departure comes as the Reds have brought in PSG stopper Keylor Navas on loan for the rest of the season. Forest were keen to secure goalkeeping reinforcements following an injury to Dean Henderson.

The Manchester United loanee is expected to be sidelined for between four to five weeks after suffering a thigh problem during the victory over Leicester City. When Henderson is fit, however, Smith would be pushed further down the pecking order with Navas and Wayne Hennessey on the books.

Smith has been third-choice for Steve Cooper ’s side in the first half of this season, behind Henderson and Hennessey. His last first-team appearance was back in March 2021, in a 2-0 defeat at home to Norwich City.

He will go down in club folklore for his crucial save against Ipswich Town on the final day of the 2016/17 campaign, however. It prevented Forest from going down to League One.

Navas was one of three deadline day signings added to Cooper’s squad, with Felipe and Jonjo Shelvey also making the switch Trentside. Gustavo Scarpa, Danilo and Chris Wood completed moves earlier in the month.
