Nottingham Forest boss' concern as Reds fall to second straight Championship defeat

Chris Hughton spoke of his concern as Nottingham Forest suffered a second successive Championship defeat at the start of the season.

For the Reds manager, further reinforcements cannot come soon enough as the club look to strengthen in the remainder of the transfer window.

Summer arrivals Jordi Osei-Tutu and Philip Zinckernagel both put in good performances as the hosts were beaten 2-1 by Bournemouth.

But with Forest target Morgan Rogers believed to have been in attendance at the City Ground, Hughton is eager to add to the three additions he has made so far.

“We need people in full stop. The ideal situation would be to have got players in as early as possible, but it’s been a difficult window - not just for us, but for most clubs,” he said.

Player ratings

Nottingham Forest suffered a second successive Championship defeat as they were beaten 2-1 by Bournemouth.

The Reds had responded to going behind in the first half as Scott McKenna equalised after the break.

But their opponents went back in front soon after, and even though they went down to 10 men, Forest couldn’t find a way through to get something from the game.

Here's how Sarah Clapson rated the Reds players.

New coach

Nottingham Forest have added former Liverpool coach Dave Rogers to their backroom staff as assistant head coach for the Under-23s.

The Reds have been searching for an assistant to Andy Reid ever since Chris Cohen's departure, but the position has now been filled by Rogers.

Rogers, a former Everton youth player, played for Dundee and Shelbourne among other clubs in a playing career between 1995 and 2012.

He stepped into coaching in January 2012 and has since taken roles with Liverpool as lead coach for the Reds' International Academy as well as International Academy Manager in South Korea.

Under-23s signing

Andy Reid has added another goalkeeper to his Nottingham Forest under-23 squad with the arrival of Joe Watkins.

The 18-year-old shot-stopper has been a target for the Reds for a number of weeks and had been expected to join Forest following his release by Charlton Athletic at the start of the summer.

His arrival at the Nigel Doughty Academy has since been confirmed, however, with Forest announcing it within Reid's preview of the season.

Under-23s goalkeeper coach Adam Skinner said he is excited by the new arrival. He told the official club website: "Joe has an excellent desire to improve, and we're delighted to have him with us.

Transfer talk

Striker Lyle Taylor has dismissed speculation about his Nottingham Forest future - and says his determination to keep a starting spot won’t change, no matter who the club sign.

The 31-year-old has been linked with a move away from the City Ground this summer, a year after he joined the Reds and after a difficult first season when he found himself in and out of the side.

With Lewis Grabban ruled out, though, Taylor started Forest’s first league game last weekend, against Coventry City, finding the back of the net in the 2-1 defeat.

Grabban is back in training now after completing a period of self-isolation - meaning there is once again competition for a place in the XI.
