New signing James Garner was handed his Nottingham Forest debut as boss Chris Hughton named his team to face Coventry City.
The Manchester United loanee came into the Reds’ starting XI in place of the injured Samba Sow, as Hughton made one change to the side which drew 0-0 at home to Barnsley at the weekend.
There was a place on the bench for deadline day arrival Glenn Murray, along with midfielder Jack Colback, who has been sidelined with injury since November.
With the news Scott McKenna is facing weeks on the sidelines with an ankle problem, Tobias Figueiredo kept his spot in the back line.
He was set to line up alongside Joe Worrall in the heart of the defence, with Cyrus Christie at right-back and Gaetan Bong on the left, with Yuri Ribeiro still suspended.
Brice Samba was once again in goal for the Reds.
Garner was set to take up the defensive midfield role alongside Cafu, who has completed a permanent transfer to the City Ground.
Fellow January arrival Filip Krovinovic retained his place in the attacking three, along with Sammy Ameobi and Anthony Knockaert, in support of lone striker Lewis Grabban.
Along with Colback and Murray, Jordan Smith, Loic Mbe Soh, Luke Freeman, Carl Jenkinson, Joe Lolley, Tyler Blackett and Lyle Taylor made up Forest’s substitutes.
Forest: Samba, Christie, Figueiredo, Worrall, Bong, Cafu, Garner, Ameobi, Krovinovic, Knockaert, Grabban. Subs: Smith, Mbe Soh, Colback, Freeman, Jenkinson, Lolley, Blackett, Taylor, Murray.
