Nottingham Forest academy graduate linked with January move after Spain struggles

Former Nottingham Forest youngster Arvin Appiah is reportedly set for a January transfer, little more than a year after leaving the City Ground.

The 19-year-old left the Reds for Almeria in the summer of 2019, but has struggled to make an impact and could now be headed for a move elsewhere.

Having come up through the ranks at the Nigel Doughty Academy, Appiah was said to have been on the radar of Manchester United before joining the Spanish second division side in a deal worth around £8m.

He was initially registered for the club’s reserve team and has found game time limited, with injury problems also hampering him.

According to Diario de Almeria, the winger is one of several names earmarked for potential movement in the winter window.

They claim: “His lack of adaptation in the first year and the intestinal operation he underwent in the middle of pre-season in Marbella this season, seem to have slowed his progression.

“Keeping him on staff without playing him at all does depreciate his market value, so at 19 years old it is 100 percent sure he will be released in January.”

The report adds discussions have taken place between Almeria and rivals Real Zaragoza about “possible movements between both clubs” next month.

They say: “The names of Arvin Appiah, Jordi Escobar and Uruguayans Cristian Olivera and Juan Manuel Gutiérrez were placed on the negotiating table.”
