Nottingham fire: A52 closed in both directions due to major incident at industrial estate

A major Nottingham road has been closed off due to a fire at an industrial estate.

As many as 12 fire engines are currently tackling the blaze at a recycling plant in Abbeyfield Road, in the Lenton area, after it was reported at around 2pm on Monday, January 31.

Plumes of thick, black smoke are billowing into the sky due to the incident.

A52 Clifton Boulevard has now been shut between the A453 and A6005 in both directions as a result.

Thane Road has also been closed from Lenton Lane roundabout.

In a tweet, National Highways said: "The #A52 between the #A453 (#Wilford) and the #A6005 (#Dunkirk) is CLOSED in both directions due to a fire adjacent to the carriageway. More details to follow."

It added: "Emergency services are currently on scene working to extinguish the fire. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management."

National Highways also issued the below diversion routes:

Westbound Traffic:

  • From the A52 Wheatcroft Island, take the exit onto the A606 towards West Bridgford.
  • Follow the A606 for 3.8km and then join the A60 heading into Nottingham city centre.
  • At the signalised junction with Queen’s Street, turn left onto the A6019.
  • Follow the A6019 around past the railway station and onto Waterway Street. At the next main junction, turn left onto the A453 heading west and continue until it re-joins the westbound A52 at Queen’s Drive Interchange

Eastbound traffic

  • From the A52 Queens Drive Interchange, take the exit onto the A453 towards the city centre.
  • Follow the A453 for approximately 2.3km and at the signalised junction with A6019, take a right turn onto the A6019 Waterway Street.
  • Continue on the A6019, turning left onto Sherriff's Way, then right onto Queen's Road. At the 'T' junction, turn right onto the A60 and follow for 1.7km, crossing the River Trent.
  • At the signalised junction with Melton Road, take the left fork onto the A606 through West Bridgford, to re-join the eastbound A52 at Wheatcroft Island
