Nottingham company launches online escape room

A Nottingham company has not let the current coronavirus restrictions stop friends and family taking part in escape rooms together.

Cave Escape, based on Mansfield Road, have taken the experience from inside their venue online after seeing an 85 percent drop in footfall this year.

That has been because of the lockdowns this year and Nottingham now being a Tier 3 area meaning escape rooms must remain closed.

Cave Escape is the first company in Nottingham to have developed a brand-new experience where players can take control of an avatar “The Hunter”, an on-site Games Master who is kitted out with a headcam and connected to players by a video link on Zoom.

Nick Scott managing director of Cave Escape said: "We are really excited to be able to offer this fantastic new way of playing escape rooms to help people to get together and do something fun during these difficult times.”

An escape room is a live adventure experience where a team of players cooperatively discover clues, solve puzzles and accomplish tasks in one or more themed rooms in a limited amount of time.

Teams can join up virtually, in groups of up to 6 players and venture deep underground into one of Nottingham’s subterranean sandstone caves and join “The Hunter” on a gothic quest to defeat Count Dracula.

Jennifer Gilbert-Scott, creative director at Cave Escape, added: “We are proud of our innovation and creativity. It’s really important that businesses are able to re-imagine the way that they operate to stay afloat in today’s challenging climate.”

The game is a re-imagining of the venue's in person Escape Room called Carfax. It is now available to book online at a cost £85 for a team of up 6 players with games lasting 75 minutes.
