SOUTH BEND, Ind. _ Josh Adams rushed for a 37-yard touchdown on his first carry Saturday against Temple.
It was just the beginning of a big day for the junior running back.
Adams rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns as the Irish defeated the Owls 49-16 at Notre Dame Stadium.
The Irish utilized their ground game throughout, finishing with 422 rushing yards.
Running back Dexter Williams had 124 rushing yards and one touchdown. Fellow back Tony Jones Jr. also scored one rushing touchdown.
Quarterback Brandon Wimbush also got into the act, rushing for 106 yards and one touchdown.
Wimbush also was effective with his arm in the first start of his career. The redshirt sophomore completed 17 of 30 passes for 184 yards. He had two passing touchdowns and one interception.
Tight end Nic Weishar and wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown had touchdown receptions for the Irish (1-0).
Quarterback Logan Marchi threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns in his first start for Temple (0-1).
