Mike Brey has few more years to add to his record win total at Notre Dame.
The Irish on Tuesday announced a contract extension for the coach through the 2024-25 season.
Brey set the school record for career wins as a men's basketball coach Jan. 3, eclipsing Digger Phelps with his 394th victory. Brey has 403 wins with the Irish and 502 overall.
His new deal runs through June 30, 2025. His previous contract, which was announced at the end of the 2011-12 season, was set to expire after the 2021-22 season.
"My goal has always been to be good enough to retire as the head coach at Notre Dame," Brey, 59, said in a statement. "It sure looks like I might be able to pull that off with this extension. I am truly honored and humbled to be the head coach at the University of Notre Dame. I want to sincerely thank Notre Dame President John Jenkins and (athletic director) Jack Swarbrick for their steadfast support and commitment to our program.
"I'm proud of what our program has achieved in the past 18 years and I could not be more excited about what the future holds."
Terms of the deal were not released.
Brey's Notre Dame teams have made the NCAA Tournament nine of the last 12 seasons. The Irish reached the Elite Eight in 2015 and 2016. Injuries derailed this past season, which ended with a second-round loss in the NIT.
"Mike Brey has built one of the most consistently successful programs in the country," Swarbrick said in a statement. "And the foundation of that success is a winning culture that develops the members of his teams as both basketball players and young men. He is a perfect fit for Notre Dame, and we are excited to have him lead our program well into the future."
