Not everybody loves Liverpool's Thiago Alcantara as Trent Alexander-Arnold problem laid bare

Well, that wasn't very good.

On a chilly night on the South Coast, Liverpool once again froze in front of goal as they slumped to a 1-0 reverse at Southampton on Monday.

Danny Ings, the former Reds striker, scored the only goal to consign Jurgen Klopp's side to their second Premier League defeat of the season.

Yours truly was on ratings duty for the ECHO and struggled to find many positives from a distinctly average performance.

Skipper Jordan Henderson, asked to play centre-back, was the only player to reach the heady heights of 7.

Alisson Becker, Gini Wijnaldum, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino all struggled with a score of 5.

But that was still more than Trent Alexander-Arnold, who had a nightmare and registered just 4.

What scores would you give the Liverpool players? Let us know in the comments below.

What everyone else said

Of course, other ratings are available. And the national media were quick to put the boot into the Reds after a sub-standard showing.

The Mail do things by halves and had Fabinho top with 6.5. Thiago, Alexander-Arnold and Oxlade-Chamberlain scored 5.

The Express put Sadio Mane ahead with 7 while Alexander-Arnold was the lowest scorer with 5.

The Independent considered Mane best with 7 while Alexander-Arnold and Salah were awarded a mere 4.

Meanwhile, The Times regarded Andy Robertson the finest performer with 7 while Alexander-Arnold, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wijnaldum, Thiago, Salah and Roberto Firmino scored 5.

Finally, the number-crunchers at WhoScored.com calculated Mane was best on 7.64 ahead of Henderson with 7.24. Last was Alexander-Arnold on 5.30.
