Northumberland family planning joint skydive to raise money for heart disease and cancer charities

A Northumberland family is planning a group skydive as they look to raise money for good causes close to their hearts.

Rebecca Clark from Pegswood in between Ashington and Morpeth, has already organised a number of events as she raises money for research into heart disease and cancer, including parties at Halloween and Christmas.

But her biggest event comes later this year, when she, her husband Kaylin Clark, sister-in-law Tempany Clark, and father-in-law Andy Clark will all jump out of a plane in aid of the charitable causes.

Mum-of-four Rebecca, who raised more than £400 through her Halloween party alone, explained her reasons behind the fundraising drive.

She said: "I'm on a mission. My motivation is I've had a few tough years - I had a mental breakdown, but I'm much better now. However, my mother-in-law and best friend got rushed to hospital and had to have an aortic dissection - and she has to have another one this year.

"At the same time, her dad passed away from cancer. I was always close to my granddad, and unfortunately a few years ago he passed away due to lung cancer.

"As a family, we decided we wanted to do a skydive. We wanted to raise as much money as possible to help these fabulous charities.

"I've had my own struggles the last few years with personal problems and this is my way of giving something back and helping others.

"It's also a massive challenge for me, I'm petrified of heights! I've asked for a blindfold because I don't want to see. I'm going to go first and I've told the others to push me out."

Rebecca has set an ambitious target of £30,000 and is confident it will be reached.

She added: "With all the little events, I will do it. I've got some amazing support from the local community, and lots of businesses have donated.

"I've hit rock bottom and pulled myself back to where I am today."

Rebecca is also planning a family fun day in July, which will include a showing of the footage captured during the skydive.
