Care home residents have dusted off their favourite dance moves and donned their best colourful clothing for a special rainbow themed party.
The party was organised in support of Pride month, which had been taking place throughout June.
And there were smiles all round as those living and working at The Oaks Care Home, in Blyth, were able to gather and enjoy a day filled with entertainment.
It celebrates greater equality for members of the LGBT+ community, while also highlighting the changes that still need to be addressed in society.
Care home manager Joanne Young said: “Pride month is all about raising awareness of issues faced by the LGBT+ community, encouraging inclusivity, and showing our support.
“This year, Pride Inside parties have been happening all over the country, due to outdoor events being cancelled, and we wanted to join in the fun with our own.”
Staff and residents dressed in rainbow wigs, glasses and waved flags to mark the occasion, which they had spent the morning creating.
They also decorated the home in rainbow colours, before enjoying a buffet of multi-coloured sweets and cakes.
But their favourite part of the day was the 80s disco, which had been organised by the home’s activities coordinator Angela Hedley.
Resident Ann Sturrock said: “I love the 80s music”. While Dennis Allen, also a resident at the home added: “I enjoyed getting up and having a dance.”
Joanne said: “The staff did a fantastic job getting everyone into the spirit of the month and the residents thoroughly enjoyed the day.”
