North Korea 'fires two unidentified missiles' just days after weapons test

North Korea has fired two more "unidentified projectiles", South Korea tonight claims.

Kim Jong-un boasted recently that North Korea's latest test launch was of a new "high calibre" weapon system that will cause enemies "inescapable distress".

Now the country has set off more weapons from the South Hwanghae province, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff reports.

But when the short-range projectile was fired into the Sea of Japan at early hours of Friday, authorities "monitored the situation" closely.

US president Donald Trump has yet to comment on the latest reports.

But Trump, who has been hoping to revive de-nuclearisation talks with North Korea, played down this week's launches when asked about them at the White House.

He told the reporters he was not worried as they were short-range missiles and 'very standard' and he was still open to negotiations.

He also said the launches did not violate Kim's promises to him and added: "I think it's very much under control, very much under control."

A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said at least one projectile was detected that did not pose a threat to North America, although there could have been multiple projectiles.

The tests have come despite a June 30 meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Trump at which they agreed to revive stalled talks.
