North East community heroes win holiday of a lifetime in Fred. Olsen cruise competition with almost 100 nominations

Almost 100 community heroes were nominated to win a Fred. Olsen cruise in a competition ran with ChronicleLive.

Some people were nominated twice, one was even nominated three times, as people from up and down the region put forward someone who they thought deserved a cruise for their community efforts. We received almost 100 entries and it wasn't an easy choice for the judging panel to pick the winners.

However, the winners have now been picked and some have already left on their cruises! Others will be excitedly packing for cruises leaving this month, while some have the rest of the year to look forward to a winter trip away either to Scandinavia, Scotland, Iceland and even Greenland.

You can see the first set of winners here and the second set here.

And some have even shown the community spirit they were nominated for, by donating their prizes to the charity that they work with or someone that they think is even more deserving than they are. We have loved reading your stories and nominations.

Fred. Olsen MD, Peter Deer, said: "Since our ‘Cruises for Community Heroes’ campaign launched, we’ve been overwhelmed by the fantastic local stories of selfless deeds. We are thrilled to announce Newcastle’s unsung heroes who make a real difference in the local community.

"For some, it’s dedicating their entire lives to charitable work, or others it’s fundraising thousands of pounds or setting up organisations that can help save lives. A big thank you from all of us at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and the team at the Chronicle Live, for those that nominated their hero.

"All of our winners contribute to bettering the lives of others and we are pleased to give them the recognition they deserve. We hope they enjoy some time for themselves and have a wonderful break onboard one of our cruises."

Sophie Barley, ChronicleLive editor said: "We received nearly 100 nominations and we enjoyed reading through all the brilliant stories of people in our region helping out in the community. We really are a region packed with hard-working, kind and generous people.

"Thank you to the Fred. Olsen team for offering this generous prize to our readers

"Congratulations to all the winners and we hope you enjoy your deserved trip away."
