Noida: Drug peddler who escaped custody held

GREATER NOIDA: The 24-year-old peddler who fled custody at Jewar police station Thursday was arrested Saturday, Gautam Budh Nagar police said. Three cops have also been booked in the case for negligence in duty.

Earlier, Amit, a resident of Rabupura in Greater Noida, was arrested Wednesday under sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act. On Thursday, he pretended to be feeling uneasy inside the lockup. “He informed the homeguard on duty that he had dizziness and nausea so the guard made him sit outside. But Amit took advantage and fled the premises,” police said.

“The accused was arrested from the road from Dudera village heading towards Dayanat Pur. During interrogation, he revealed that after escaping from custody, he took a phone from a truck driver and called his brother-in-law, Deepak. He then went to Firozpur with Deepak,” the SHO said. However, Deepak did not take him home and he fled to Chhainsa village on the UP-Haryana border. “He stayed there at the temple. We received a tip-off, following which Amit was arrested,” police said.
