Noel Gallagher aims dig at Jamie Carragher but Liverpool fans hit back after Man City defeat

Jamie Carragher and Noel Gallagher exchanged digs as Chelsea beat Man City to win the Champions League this weekend.

Gallagher was in Porto at the Estadio do Dragao, and was taking part in some pre-match media duties with CBS Sports.

The game also coincided with Gallagher’s birthday, and Carragher decided to sing him a song to mark the occasion.

"I just want to sing you a song, Noel, to celebrate as you were last night," said the former Reds centre-back.

Carragher then launched into a rendition of his former club's famous anthem, You'll Never Walk Alone, singing: "When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high..."

At this point, Gallagher interrupted to say: "Hey mate, mate, mate, that was worse than one of your own goals!"

Chelsea Champions League win hands Liverpool group stage boost

Liverpool have avoided a potential showdown with Borussia Dortmund following Chelsea's Champions League win over Manchester City.

The Londoners won their second European Cup in Lisbon on Saturday with victory over Pep Guardiola's City, meaning they go into pot 1 next season.

By winning their Europa League final after a lengthy and dramatic penalty shootout in Gdansk on Wednesday evening, Villarreal will also go into Pot 1.

They will join the title winners from the highest-ranked European leagues - Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Lille and Sporting Lisbon.

Liverpool will be in Pot 2, alongside Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Sevilla and Dortmund, who move up from Pot 3 following Chelsea's triumph.
