No visitors to see Great Buddha statue in Kamakura

YOKOHAMA -- No visitors were seen in the vicinity of Kotokuin temple in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture -- where the Great Buddha of Kamakura is situated -- on Saturday as the popular sight has been closed to visitors because of the spread of new coronavirus infections.

The second half of the Golden Week holiday period began Saturday as the central and local governments continued calling for the public to refrain from going out and venturing beyond prefectural borders.

There was a limited number of visitors to popular spots nationwide that, under normal circumstances, annually attract a high volume of tourists.
