No new locally-acquired virus cases in NSW

NSW has notched up a sixth consecutive day with no new locally-acquired cases of COVID-19. (AAP)

NSW has again recorded no new locally-acquired coronavirus cases but the government has repeated its warning that too few people are being tested.

More than 14,000 people were tested in the 24 hours to 8pm on Thursday, 538 more than had been tested the day before. Just 6040 people were tested on Monday.

But NSW Health said there are still too few people coming forward for testing. The department has urged people even with mild symptoms to have a test rather than waiting to see if they disappear.

NSW Health said the presence of the virus in sewage could reflect the presence of known cases, but it could also suggest there are people with COVID-19 in the community who have mistaken their symptoms for a cold.

Four new cases were reported in overseas travellers on Wednesday. There are 74 active cases, most of which are being treated in non-acute, out-of-hospital care.

Two previously-reported cases, one locally-acquired and the other an overseas traveller, have been ruled out following further investigations.

It's the sixth consecutive day with no local transmission in NSW.

Investigations continue into the source of the recent COVID-19 case of a woman who works as a cleaner at a Sydney quarantine hotel. No further positive results have been identified, NSW Health says.

There have been 4435 confirmed cases of infection in the state since the pandemic began.
